Antique Japanese Satsuma Charger, Gathering of Rakan, 12.5"
A striking hand-painted Satsuma earthenware charger from Japan, featuring a densely detailed procession of Rakan (Buddhist sages) with gilt halos, accompanied by a coiling dragon amid clouds, pagodas, and a seated deity group. Rendered in fine polychrome enamels with extensive raised gold (moriage) work over a crackle-glazed ivory ground, with a scalloped rim. The reverse bears a Satsuma ware mark reading "Made at Fuji-san, Japan."
